Study Purpose/Description
Being in the sun can damage your skin and eyes, but it also allows your body to make vitamin D and has other benefits. The harms and benefits of sun exposure are not the same for all people and it can be tricky to know how to get the balance right.
A team of researchers at QIMR Berghofer have developed a series of evidence-based educational materials that aim to provide sun exposure advice that is tailored to people’s risk of skin cancer and where they live. The research team are looking for volunteers to help test these materials so they can understand how they are received and where they can be improved.
What’s Involved?
Participants will be asked to:
- Complete a survey about what they think, know, and do about sun exposure;
- Read some general information about sun exposure, vitamin D, and skin cancer;
- Complete a 1–2-minute online risk assessment so the research team can provide tailored advice based on their risk of skin cancer and location.
- 7-10 days after receiving the tailored advice, participants will be asked to complete a second survey.
The total time needed for the Sun Balance Study should be up to 1 hour.
