Study Purpose/Description
The George Institute for Global Health is conducting a study to test the impact of a program that delivers healthy food boxes (Produce Prescription) for adults who have Type 2 Diabetes, persistent high blood sugar levels, and difficulty accessing nutritious food or experiencing financial hardship.
By taking part, you can help researchers to understand whether this program can be included in the Australian health care system.
What’s Involved?
Participants will be randomly assigned to either the produce prescription group or the control group.
- The produce prescription group will receive food boxes delivered to their home weekly for 6 months free of charge. The amount (‘dose’) of healthy foods provided will cover ~50% of daily recommended intake for fruit, vegetables, whole grains, and nuts and seeds, for 5 days every week.
This group will also have 3 consultations with an Accredited Practicing Dietitian to support positive dietary behaviours. - The control group will receive care as usual from their physician.
- Both groups will complete questionnaires and 3 blood tests over the 6 months.
All participants will receive a total of $350 worth of grocery vouchers by the end of the study as a token of appreciation. All participants will also receive a blood pressure monitor, and a weighing scale delivered free of charge.
