PANDA Trial: Health Consumers

Study Purpose/Description

Researchers at the University of Sydney, University of New South Wales, University of Wollongong, Western Sydney Local Health District, Griffith University Gold Coast, The George Institute Sydney, Bond University, BC Parks Foundation and Primary & Community Care Servicess want to help people aged 45 and above with heart and metabolic issues to be more active through a nature prescription intervention.

Nature prescriptions involve recommending or encouraging individuals to spend time in natural environments as way to incorporate nature into a person’s routine for its positive effects on physical activity, stress reduction, and overall health.

What’s Involved?

If you meet the above criteria, you are invited to participate in a 60–90-minute online focus group interview. You will also be required to complete a short survey about your time spent doing physical activity and in green spaces.

Recruitment criteria

The study is open to people who:

  • Are aged 45 years or above,
  • Are currently living in Greater Sydney, Wollongong LGA, or Shellharbour LGA
  • Are physically inactive (less than 30 minutes of physical activity on 5 days a week, and not enough to increase breathing rate)
  • Spend less than 2 hours per week in nature
  • Have been diagnosed with cardiometabolic conditions or heart disease
