Medically Tailored Meals

Researchers from The George Institute want to help support people living with undermanaged Type 2 Diabetes who experience difficulties accessing and/or preparing nutritious meals.

Study Purpose/Description

Accessing healthy and nutritiously-balanced meals to manage Type 2 Diabetes can be challenging. Researchers from The George Institute are looking to help support people with undermanaged Type 2 Diabetes who experience difficulties accessing and/or preparing nutritious meals.

What’s Involved?

Study participants will be assigned to the group receiving the meals (intervention) or a comparison group (control).

If you are allocated to the meals intervention group, you will:

  • receive twenty (20) free pre-prepared healthy meals once over two weeks for six months.
  • participate in free dietary consultations with our study dietitian (at week 2, 4, and 8), who will provide you with healthy eating tips.
  • receive up to three $50 vouchers at baseline, week 13 and week 26 (after completion of pathology data collection) that can be used to purchase groceries.

If you are allocated to the control group, you will:

  • receive up to three $100 vouchers – at baseline, week 13 and week 26 (after completion of pathology data collection) that can be used to purchase groceries.

You will be required to complete some dietary surveys over the course of study, and to provide blood samples at specific checkpoints.

All participants will receive a blood pressure monitor and a weighing scale delivered to them free of charge.
