The Updated Join Us Health Questionnaire
The Join Us health questionnaire has undergone important revisions and now enables the register to capture more health conditions than ever before. Now containing over 60 additional health conditions spanning 17 different health categories, this comprehensive and detailed list will enable Join Us to better match participants to research studies relevant to them.
The updated health questionnaire was created with support from several Australian health research centres, industry experts, medical practitioners and health consumers. As Join Us continues to grow, providing participants with the opportunity to select from over 100 diseases and health conditions is crucial to building a database that more accurately represents the diverse health needs of the Australian population.
The health questionnaire revision includes the expansion of existing categories such as Bones and Joints – disc degeneration, disc prolapse and sciatica were newly added – as well as the introduction of new categories such as Infectious Diseases. This category includes conditions such as Long COVID, tuberculosis, and others. Also included in this revision are additions to the Women’s Health and Pregnancy category, including post-partum anxiety and depression (PPA and PPD, respectively), pelvic floor conditions and pregnancy-related back pain or pelvic pain.
The Join Us health questionnaire is also available for researchers interested in using the register to support recruitment for their studies. Researchers with ethics approval can access this list of health conditions in their Researcher Access Form to better specify the criteria for participation in their study.
Utilising categories for health conditions and disease types makes it easier for participants and researchers to navigate through the comprehensive list of conditions to select those which are most applicable. It also makes it easier for the Join Us team to build a clearer image of our participant base, identifying which conditions are more common across the database. This information is particularly useful in understanding areas
Health conditions can change over time, and the information you entered upon registration may no longer be accurate. We encourage all participants to update their Join Us Participant Profile every year to ensure they receive invitations to studies that are most relevant to them. You can also update your contact details and adjust the number of invitations you wish to receive in a calendar year. If you registered before July 2024, we encourage you to browse our revised health questionnaire and update your Join Us Participant Profile today.
