What types of research can I take part in?

Health research studies are used to improve the way certain diseases or conditions are diagnosed, treated and prevented, improving health outcomes for the entire community. Health research is critical to advancing treatments, health programs, policies and services to improve overall population level health outcomes. However, one of the most difficult things about conducting research is finding the right participants. By taking part in health research, participants are helping to answer important research questions and improve health outcomes for all Australians

So, what are the types of research that you can take part in?

Join Us has helped support recruitment for over 70 research studies since our inception in 2021. As a disease-agnostic register, Join Us supports recruitment across a wide range of topics including healthy ageing, mental health, cardiovascular health, cancer research, women’s health, and many others. The evidence generated from these research studies contribute to new and better treatments for diseases, strategies to improve existing health programs, policies and services and or creating new ones.

Join Us supports recruitment to research studies contributing to:
1. Advancing treatments and therapies
Join Us proudly supports recruitment to research studies developing and testing new treatments, this research aims to improve patient outcomes by discovering innovative therapies and optimizing existing treatment. This includes UNSW’s C-STAM Study.

2. Enhancing health education & promotion
This research emphasizes on empowering communities to make healthy choices by improving knowledge, attitudes and practices. This type of research focuses on creating, evaluating, and implementing effective health education, aiming to raise awareness and promote healthy behaviours across diverse populations. For example, QIMR Berghofer’s Sun Balance Study.

3. Innovating health intervention programs
Research in this area concentrates on developing targeted holistic health interventions, with the goal of improving health outcomes by addressing specific health challenges in communities. For example, the University of Sydney’s Active Women Over 50 study.

4. Advancing health services research
This type of research helps in optimising healthcare delivery by examining the efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare services, aiming to enhance patient care, streamline operations, and improve access to high-quality healthcare. Monash University’s Better Responses to Drug Offences Study is a notable example.

5. Shaping health policy research
This type of research is focused on informing policy. This research plays a crucial role in shaping evidence-based policies that promote public health and improve health outcomes, such as the University of Sydney’s and UNSW’s PANDA Trial.
