People Living with an Adult with Depression

Study Purpose/Description

The Family Management Style Framework helps healthcare professionals understand how families deal with living with a chronic illness, including how families cope with the challenges that come with chronic illness. The Framework has helped healthcare professionals understand how to better support families dealing with chronic and long-term illnesses, but has yet to be adapted to support families when a member has depression.

What’s Involved?

Participation in this study involves taking part in a 90-minute focus group where participants will be asked to give their opinion about the Family Management Style Framework, and whether they think it can be adapted to help others who live with someone diagnosed with depression.

The focus groups will have a maximum of 8 participants. Participants able to participate online via video call, or in-person at the Edith Cowan University campus in Joondalup, WA.

Recruitment criteria

You can take part in this study if you:

  • Live with an adult (18+) relative or family member diagnosed with depression;
  • This adult relative or family member has not been diagnosed with any other mental illness; and,
  • You do not have a diagnosis of depression yourself
